JOURNALISM AS A PROFESSION

                Journalism is deteriorating into a profession in the modern World. It involves the literary business of editing or publishing newspapers or periodicals. Journalism is learned profession. It requires sound general knowledge of the particular conditions, current events and party politics of a country. Extensive study of history, geography, politics and economics is very advantageous to a journalist clear thinking cool and calculating disposition and quick as well as balanced judgment are essential requisites in this profession. Besides a journalist, should have a thorough knowledge of the subject mastery of language, adequate immigration, playful initiative ability to serve and read accurately, specially trained judgment and facility in the use of journalistic technique. The knowledge are supplementary qualifications. There are special journals catering for different departments of human activity such a religion, literature, art, music, etc. but most newspaper and journals are organs of political parties.

                Journalism has become and is becoming every day in even greater degree, the most importance function in the community. Journalists are, so to speak, keepers of a Country’s conscience and wield incalculable influences on public affairs.

                In Pakistan journalism is a difficult task. The journalists have to trend cautionary and on very delicate grounds. The Press laws and Defense of Pakistan Rules haunt then at every step. Some journalists are tools at the hands of Government and thus they have spoiled this profession Journalism in Western countries has become a paying and honorable profession, whereas in Pakistan it its infancy. There are vast possible of making it more dignified, remunerative and useful. The importance of journalism of the right type cannot be exaggerated in a country like Pakistan within number able parties and rival communities.
